How Manga Translator Z works on Webtoons

Install the extension, open any chapter on webtoons.com, and press T. Speech bubbles get detected by the bundled ONNX YOLO model, the original Japanese / Korean / Chinese text is read by GPT-5.4-mini vision, and translations render directly inside each bubble in a manga font (Komika Hand by default). Original art stays underneath - hover any bubble to flash the source language back.

Long-strip vertical infinite scroll. Episodes are split into virtually-numbered slices loaded as the user scrolls - MTZ's IntersectionObserver triggers translation per slice as it enters the viewport.

What works on Webtoons

• Infinite-scroll detection: MTZ translates each new image as it scrolls into view, so you don't pay for translations of episodes you bounce off
• Korean source language auto-detection - the popup's Auto-detect setting picks Korean correctly for any /viewer route on webtoons.com
• Vertical reading direction is detected automatically; the speech-bubble-anchored 🔊 voice button still anchors at the bottom-edge of each Korean bubble

Quirks & what to watch for

• The Korean and English Webtoons sites are different reader UIs - set source language explicitly with a per-site rule for webtoons.com if auto-detect ever picks wrong
• Webtoons uses CSS-clipped images for some episodes; MTZ's bubble detector ignores clipping and detects from the rendered visible region, but very tall slices (>4096 px) translate as separate canvas chunks
